Participant Feedback

What people found valuable

"I'd been meaning to get a handle on my finances for years, but every resource I tried either assumed I already knew things I didn't, or was trying to sell me something. The first programme at Lampworth was the first time it actually clicked — the pace was right, and the group format meant I could ask the questions I was embarrassed to ask anywhere else."

"The investment programme was exactly the right level for me — I had some vague awareness of how markets worked, but I'd never really understood the mechanics. Going through it in a small group with real worked examples made a genuine difference. I finished with a much clearer sense of what questions to ask before putting money anywhere."

"My wife and I did the planning programme together after we got our BTO key. The CPF sessions were particularly useful — I thought I understood our accounts but there were a few things about the OA and SA interaction that we'd been getting wrong. The private consultations gave us space to work through our actual numbers rather than just the theory."

"I was a little sceptical at first — I'd heard similar pitches before and they always turned into a product recommendation session. Lampworth is different. Not once did I feel like the content was leading toward selling me something. The facilitator was knowledgeable and very straight with us about what the materials could and couldn't tell us."

"I was in my mid-30s and still didn't have a proper budget. Embarrassing to admit, but there it is. The habits programme wasn't preachy about it — it just started from where you actually are and worked from there. Within the first two weeks I had a clearer picture of my monthly finances than I'd had in years. Small group of eleven people, and the facilitator knew all our names by week two."

"I completed all three programmes over about eighteen months. Looking back, the way they build on each other is well thought through — the things that felt like foundations in the habits programme became genuinely useful when we got into investment mechanics, and by the time I reached the planning programme, the vocabulary was already there. The location at George Street is easy to get to after work."

Participant journeys in detail

MW

Michelle Wong, 38 — Financial Habits + Investment Knowledge

Completed both programmes over 14 months · Buona Vista

Starting point

Michelle had a steady income but had never budgeted systematically. She'd opened an investment account years earlier but left it largely idle, uncertain about how to evaluate what to buy.

Through the programmes

The habits programme helped her build a monthly framework she actually maintained. When she joined the investment programme, she had a clearer picture of how much surplus she could direct toward investing each month, which made the simulation exercises more meaningful.

Where she is now

Monthly budgeting is now routine rather than effortful. She's actively managing a diversified ETF and REIT portfolio and, as she puts it, "can read a fund factsheet without feeling lost." She has enrolled in the planning programme and is due to start in April 2026.

"What I didn't expect was how much the small group format would matter. Having other people at different life stages asking different questions helped me see my own situation from angles I wouldn't have considered alone."

DM

David & Mei-Ling Murugesen, 44 & 41 — Rooted Financial Planning

Completed planning programme · Serangoon

Starting point

Two incomes, two children approaching secondary school, and a nagging sense that they should have a clearer retirement picture than they did. They'd received advice from a financial adviser previously but felt the recommendations were shaped more by commission than their situation.

Through the programme

The CPF strategy sessions changed how they understood both their OA and SA balances. They worked through retirement income modelling in the private consultations using their own projected figures, which gave the numbers more weight than any generic example could.

Outcomes

They restructured their voluntary CPF contributions and revisited their insurance cover, ultimately reducing overlap and freeing monthly cash flow. The 6-month follow-up helped them stay on track after the programme ended.

"The programme was direct about what it was and wasn't. It's education — not advice. That distinction felt more honest than anything we'd encountered before, and it meant we trusted the content more."

KC

Kenneth Chong, 29 — Financial Habits (starter programme)

Completed habits programme · Jurong East

Starting point

Two years into his first permanent role, Kenneth felt he should be more intentional with money but kept starting budgeting attempts that fell apart within a fortnight. He enrolled at the recommendation of a colleague who had completed the same programme.

Through the programme

He found the workbook exercises more useful than any app he'd tried — partly because they were physical and partly because they were designed to surface patterns rather than just record transactions. The group discussions gave him a reference point for what was realistic at his income level in Singapore.

Outcomes

Six months later he had consistent savings for the first time and a clearer picture of what he was working toward. He's enrolled in the investment programme starting May 2026 and considers the SGD 310 one of the better financial decisions he's made.

"The facilitator had a way of taking questions that sounded basic and answering them in a way that made you realise they weren't basic at all. I walked out of most sessions thinking I needed to look at something differently."
